Wii to Far Cry?

A post on popular speculation and rumor-filled Nintendo news website, GoNintendo, claims that online retailer Amazon.ca has listed Far Cry for the Nintendo Wii. What makes this story interesting is the fact that the series has never appeared on a Nintendo console, being restricted to sale on the PC and Xbox. Thanks to the strong hardware power of both platforms, developer Crytek has been able to delve gamers into lush and beautifully rendered forests, offering visuals that many consider to be too superior to use on the less powerful PS2 and GameCube platforms.

While the Wii will undoubtedly be more powerful than the GameCube, Nintendo has stated several times that the Wii is only slightly more powerful than GameCube, with many developers backing such claims. In fact, many have gone on to talk of the Wii as a mere overclocked version of the GameCube, although, such a claim can be considered unfair and inaccurate at best.

So, is it likely that we’ll see Far Cry on the Wii? Considering the history of the series and the developer’s hunger for strong hardware power to push their artisitic and graphical talents to the limits, we can’t see Far Cry making its way onto the Wii anytime soon. The Xbox 360 and, more appropriately the PlayStation 3, seems to be a more suitable choice for the stunning hardware-pushing series, simply due to the level of power that the developers have to play with. Then again, it is also possible that the developers have become interested in the use of the motion sensing technology that Nintendo is tantalising many developers with.

As with most things, only time will tell. If Far Cry does make it to the Wii, it will be a strong new franchise for the console that should help stir the critics of the Wii’s graphical power, as Crytek will no doubt push the Wii’s graphical prowess to its limits and produce a beautiful shooter. It’s also important to remember that online retailers are famous for their mistaken product pages, in particular Amazon. And we’re willing to bet on just that: this time around, Amazon hasn’t revealed a new yet-announced game. Instead, it’s yet another of their famous product mistakes.
