Xbox 360 to get FPS controller?
Here’s an interesting bit of news: Shacknews is reporting that Microsoft is currently looking at making a new alternative controller for the Xbox 360. Apparently, this new controller will be designed specifically for use in games that demand more percision, particular the First Person Shooter genre. Gamers over the years have argued that FPS games are better suited to the PC’s traditional mouse and keyboard setup, claiming that controlers are unable to offer the same level of accuracy and speed. Given that Microsoft has no plans to release a keyboard and mouse setup for the Xbox 360, the company is looking at taking a slightly different route.
This new controller will not replace the current standard Xbox 360 controller that is in use, but will instead act as an alternative. According to Shacknews, Microsoft’s product unit manager for hardware, Robert S. Walker, talked about how Microsoft are looking to produce a more sensitive controller to movement. “Walker noted that Microsoft is looking at ways to modify the right analog stick on the controller to make it more conducive to the precise movements used in shooters and various other genres.”
Of course, such a controller is only in the planning stages for now, reports Microsoft. And this isn’t the first time that Microsoft has indicated their desire to produce a different controller. Back in June, Microsoft’s Peter Moore discussed how he is interested in offering gamers an alternative way to play games, obviously inspired by Nintendo’s controller innovation for the Wii. It’ll be interesting to see if anything is made of either products.
