Wii launching with 25+ titles?

Rumours are circulating the net that the Big N may be launching with as many as 25 or more titles for the Wii. I don’t care what console you support; you have to admit that’s pretty damn good. Of course the keyword in all this is RUMOUR. But that’s what we do here at Blogger Within. Throughout their console life, Nintendo’s downfall has always been its lack of third party support. The N64 knows most about this. The N64 had many A+ class titles (Goldeneye, Ocarina, Perfect Dark), but badly suffered from no third party support. Nintendo attempted (very poorly) to rectify this with the Gamecube, but as Charlton Heston says, “no dice.” Anyone remember the Gamecube launch? No? Just checking. The Gamecube is/was a very good system, but again, gets let down by no third party support. Sega and Ubisoft stepped in, but it wasn’t enough.

Then came the DS. Everybody predicted another fail for Nintendo. Lo and behold look at the little dude now, smashing sales records, with numerous games selling 1-million+ copies. It’s even beating the PSP, all over the world in sales. Things can only get better for Nintendo, with the success of the DS paramount to what the Wii can accomplish. So is Nintendo’s ‘third party’ curse about to fall with the Wii? In my opinion, yes it will. Nintendo has caught the attention of game designers; everybody is clambering to support them. Ubisoft announced their ‘Ubi Seven’ a few days ago and Sega have dropped the rivalry and announced a plethora of games. Hell, even Heido Kojima (Metal Gear Solid creator) said he wants to work on the Wii. And if this isn’t proof enough of what Nintendo can do, then I don’t know what is.

Anyway, back onto those rumoured 25+ titles. Keep in mind that not all (although a fair few have) of these have been officially confirmed, so be wary. You got to say though, it’s looking very good for the Big N.
